My ceramic sculptures have always reflected my home life and my experiences of being a parent. Importantly they talk of my deep love of animals and my connection to the natural environment both growing up in the hills of Perth and now living close to our beautiful coastline.
Birds have always been a great love and interest in my life since a child with regular kookaburras and magpies coming to our front door. Now with my own family we have forged a relationship with a group of magpies, butcher birds that we feed regularly and we are surrounded by wattle birds, honey eaters, carnaby cockatoos, rainbow lorikeets that come rest and revive themselves in our native garden.
These new ceramic figures from porcelain and stoneware clays are a reflection of my thoughts and the birds pay respect to their mothering nature and the importance of home and habitat. Each piece is modeled by hand and glazed with slips stains and oxides.
