ARTIST BIOGRAPHY
Cameron Haas’s artistic journey began at the University of Tasmania and culminated in a Bachelor of Fine Arts with Honours from the National Art School in Sydney in 2010. Now based in Canberra, Cameron’s recent work is characterized by a compelling interplay of form and color, where he artfully manipulates spatial edges and the flatness of paint.
While his compositions are non-narrative, their simple, organic forms evoke a sense of story that varies with the viewer’s personal experience. Cameron’s works invite subjective interpretation, creating a dynamic relationship between the painting’s projection and the viewer’s perception.
Within these seemingly simple compositions, every element—color, tone, shape, intersection, and edge—is meticulously considered and composed, leaving no room for artistic concealment. Each painting originates as a pencil line drawing on paper, where the initial composition must possess an uncomplicated authority against the stark white background. Color is then introduced to guide the composition towards a resolution of pictorial space.
