Todd Romanowycz, also known as Romy, is an Australian artist whose distinctive practice combines acrylic painting with Perspex to create works with a crisp, graphic quality. His precise finish and layered surfaces give his paintings a contemporary edge while drawing heavily on the visual language of nostalgia.
Growing up in Elliston on the remote West Coast of South Australia, Romanowycz developed an appreciation for the landscapes and imagery of regional Australia. He graduated with a Bachelor of Visual Art in 2001 and has continued to refine his distinctive approach to painting ever since.
His work frequently incorporates nostalgic subjects, including vintage cars, motorcycles, and other familiar objects, reimagined through bold compositions and a contemporary aesthetic. While rooted in traditional genres such as landscape and still life, Romanowycz’s paintings move well beyond convention, combining graphic precision with a distinctly retro sensibility.
