Artist Biography

Born in 1981, Seoul-based artist Ota studied fine art at Incheon National University and has worked as a motion graphic art director. Today, the full-time artist creates paintings in her own formative language that combines popular sensibilities gained from the commercial design scene with cinematic compositions, cartooning techniques, and painterly materials.

With emphasis placed on ‘finding light in the darkness’ Ota uses a spectrum of colours to express contradictions and conflicting emotions in her unique visual language.

When viewing Ota’s artworks, audiences are encouraged to ruminate on the paradox of life and the beauty that melancholy creates as depicted through the nuance of light and Ota’s disparate colour combinations and ethereal atmospheres.

It has been said of her work, “The artists captivating oil paintings, bring vibrant colours and cinematic flair to her evocative portraits. With each brushstroke, she creates a symphony of emotions, capturing the essence of youth and inviting viewers into a world of profound experiences. Through her unique style and ability to convey deep emotions, Ota’s artwork resonates deeply with audiences worldwide.”

Ota has exhibited extensively throughout Seoul. The artist has had a sold-out curation of work in Gallery Marong, in addition to, an exhibition at Gallery Polestarart titled ‘Beyond The Face’. She has also shown in Paris, Madrid and New York.
