ARTIST BIOGRAPHY

Julie Simmons has a diverse background in the arts, with experience as a commercial artist, detail draughtsperson, and even as a successful studio potter. In 2004, she returned to fine art painting and quickly gained recognition and awards for her exceptional techniques.

While Julie works with various mediums, it is watercolour that truly ignites her creativity. As a plein air painter, Julie paints quickly, producing numerous studies trying to capture the essence of the subject in shape and tone. This approach allows Julie to simplify her subjects while maintaining a sense of depth. These studies are utilised in the studio to produce more substantial works in a variety of mediums.

Julie has continued to explore new media to expand and develop her expressive watercolour techniques, resulting in paintings that are both translucent and complex. Her dedication has earned her numerous awards and a coveted place in important art collections throughout Australia. As a Fellow of the Royal Art Society, she continues to make a significant impact in the art world.
