Somewhere My Love – Seeker I

Textiles, electronics, plastic, polymer clay

90 x 80 cm

This work explores the phenomenon of love & loneliness in an era of hook-up apps like Grinder & Tinder, mapping out the city with people looking for connection. Here plant/animal forms with voluptuous interiors and flamboyant flower spikes move around the gallery space, occasionally connecting but more often passing each other by. The song title is the schmaltzy theme from “ Dr Zhivago” that used to tinkle from a pop-up revolving cigarette dispenser my parents had in the 70s, which went ‘Somewhere my love, there will be songs to sing, even though the snow covers the hopes of spring’.
