Artist Biography
Rebecca Trajkovski is a self-taught artist who currently lives and works in Sydney, Australia. Trajkovski’s work is heavily influenced by her lived experiences and personality; some are confined by sharp lines and intricate details that require discipline to execute, emblematic of her work ethic, whilst other pieces are created spontaneously without inhibitions. Trajkovski’s works are subject to continuous evolution as she explores finding new modes of expression.
Rebecca’s figurative work echoes a former life with more complex stories woven into the meticulous lines and characters whose perfectly contrived appearance prompts you to scratch beneath the paint in search of deeper truth. Her imagery is as sharp as her wit, every detail imbued with very clear intention. Colour and texture are key to the appeal of Trajkovski’s work, with contemporary trends lending themselves to the very vivid and even fluorescent, the artist shows respect and restraint in her application of colour so that, paradoxically, her work lands somewhere between the neutral and the vibrant.
Rebecca was the winner of the Local Artist Prize in the Georges River Art Prize (2019), winner of the People’s Choice Award in the Law Society “Just Art Competition” and runner up in the Aspire Gallery Foot Square Art Prize (2019). Her works have featured as finalist pieces in art prizes including the Blacktown City Art Prize (2019), the Waverley Art Prize (2019), Georges River Art Prize (2019), Lethbridge 20000 Art Award (online) (2020), Hornsby Art Prize (2022), BDAS Portrait Prize (2022), Meroogal Women’s Art Prize (2022) and the Korea Australia Arts Foundation Prize (2022).
Solo shows include “While you were sleeping”, at Hurstville Museum & Gallery (2021) and Disorder Gallery (2021).
