Leigh Pearson is an artist who lives and works in Byron Bay. Pearson began painting relatively late, after a career in the design and production of children’s clothing. The artist is committed to continually advancing into new creative territory and embracing the discomfort that change precipitates. Her view is that art education and development as a lifelong process. Though mainly self-taught, Pearson is a prolific student, having attended several art programs both locally and overseas.
Despite her great love of working with oil paint and canvas, Pearson experiments with different materials and techniques, most recently working with salvaged and recycled materials. This ability to see past the superficial value of something to see alternative worth, is also emulated in her subject matter. Her figurative compositions are layered and deep, telling a story much different to their immediate effect. Narrative that, according to the artist, arises from a fascination with humanity and the ritualistic interactions that form the framework of our lives.
Pearson has exhibited in several solo shows around Australia and group shows in Sydney, Brisbane and her hometown, Byron Bay. The Artist’s work is significantly popular with both Australian clientele and her International collectorship continues to gain rapid traction.
