AM DeBrincat (USA)

International Artist

AM DeBrincat is a Maltese-American multidisciplinary artist based in Brooklyn, New York whose work explores the hybrid nature of identity in the Digital Age. DeBrincat’s work has been included in group exhibitions throughout the US and abroad, and in solo exhibitions throughout the US.

Taking her inspiration from the pastel colors of baked confections, she builds up creamy oil paint on the canvas with brush and palette knife, applying the paint as a baker would frost a cake. These rich areas of creamy painting are juxtaposed with photographic imagery, emphasizing the way that our digital and “off-line” lives blend in our contemporary moment.

ARTIST BIOGRAPHY

AM DeBrincat is a Brooklyn, New York based artist whose work merges traditions of painting, digital and analog photography, and printmaking. DeBrincat was born in San Francisco, California and grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area at a time when the area was transforming from a counter-culture creative hub into a center of the tech industry. That push-pull between creativity and technology echoes in her work in the way that she combines digital photography with traditional painting techniques. After a brief stint as a baker’s assistant, DeBrincat received her MFA from Parsons the New School for Design and began making paintings which combine digital photographic collage with old masters’ oil painting techniques.
