Alison Mooney is an Australian self taught artist based on the Sunshine Coast in South-East Queensland. In 2009 she left her journalism career to focus more on her art, since then she has made a name for herself as both an artist and a passionate advocate for fellow emerging artists. Mooney has founded and co-founded MARS Gallery and TheGRID hybrid arts collective in Toowoomba.
Expanse, bright and energetic, Mooney’s gestural abstractions are an experimentation in suspense and unknowing. Using a combination of media including aerosol and oils, she allows the colour blends and movements that appear on the canvas to dictate themselves, combining and repelling as they interact. It is no wonder Mooney’s compositions have been increasingly commissioned for murals and collaborative projects throughout South East Queensland.
Alison Mooney currently works out of a shared studio in Noosaville. Her art is energetic with influences drawn from attitudes of graffiti, activism and ‘sugar pop’. Her current body of work investigates ‘suspense’ and its cultural connotations in public Australian vernacular.
