Vanessa R. William’s principal inspiration comes from the natural landscape around her. She is interested in exploring plant forms and shapes, imitating natural forms that have movement and are organic in appearance. She likes transforming or making metal appear soft and flowing which gives it a more organic appearance. She has created are flowing liquid forms that flow over and around the fingers.
She began using Lost Wax casting as my preferred method, finding that the wax lent itself to create these forms. The wax is soft and pliable and it helps capture the sense of fluidity. Also by working directly with metal she began to experiment with fabricating the forms. These lack the weightiness of the cast forms, but still convey the fluidity and movement of natural forms.
More recently she has been incorporating Titanium and Nickel into her work, making use mainly of the colour differences.
Vanessa R. Williams lives and works on the Gold Coast.

I enjoy it
3. Who do you make it for?
Myself and others
4. Do you plan out a piece or do you wing it?
Both. Sometimes I have an idea and that is planned, sometimes ideas come from the materials I have, sometimes ideas are inspired by things around me.
5. Do you have heroes? If so, who, if not why not?
Other contemporary jewelers who have made a living from their art, and those who have knowledge that are willing to share it. Eg, Leslie Matthews, Julie Blyfield, Mark Edgoose amoung others

When the final polish is applied
7. Do you have your own cure for artists block?
No
8. Do you think having an art education is important in order to be successful?
No there are plenty of successful artists who have never had one. It definitely helps if for no other reason than you get to network and receive feedback from others which helps your ideas to grow especially when emerging.
