Sonya G. Peters was born in Canada and worked as a graphic designer after completing a Diploma of Applied Arts in Illustration at Sheridan College, Ontario, before moving to Australia in 1991. Sonya has since completed a Bachelor of Fine Art with First class Honours and a Master of Visual Art at Queensland College of Art, Gold Coast, where she is now teaching. Fresh from finishing her Masters Sonya was rewarded with the Philip Bacon Recommendation prize and was short listed for the Stan and Maureen Duke Art Prize Gold Coast. Her work Bedroom Series, was acquired by the National Australia Private Bank Collection.  Recently Sonya was a finalist in the 2011 Prometheus and Lethbridge Art Prizes. Sonya divides her time between art-making, lecturing and raising four children on the Gold Coast. She is represented by 19 KAREN Contemporary Artspace on the Gold Coast.
