For the last few years, I have mainly been concentrating on the painterly quality in my images, allowing sensitivity to the media being used. I work mostly in oils and acrylic on canvas or wood, and lately have been developing a series of pencil drawings on paper entitled 'Boating Songs'.
The subject matter of my work consistently draws upon images that are suggestive of the past, particularly of the 19th and early 20th century Victorian and Edwardian periods, not to portray nostalgia but to conjure an atmosphere that possesses an emotional quality suited to the theme of the work.
Images with contemporary significance such as celebrities and fashion logos are also quite often used in a subjective, poetic, romantic, and usually dark context. The explorations of personal, cultural and social identity and the workings of the human condition are the themes always present in my work, usually with a tragic overtone.
My education in art has included a diploma, and bachelor's degree in visual art at Queensland University of Technology. I have been participating in solo and group exhibitions since 2005, both in Australia and the U.S. My work appeared in Australian Art Collector, Brisbane Magazine, Style Magazine, and various local publications.
I live and work from my studio in Brisbane and I am currently working on a series of drawings entitled 'Boating Songs', depicting images of 19th century sailors, philosophers, musicians and prostitutes, that I plan to exhibit in conjunction with a group of oil paintings on canvas with a similar theme.
