To coincide with Fleur Harris’s solo show Soft Cuts and the 2009 ARC Biennial ‘Outside In’ program Fleur will be staging an Artist talk/ Workshopat 19 KAREN Contemporary Artspace on Sunday October 25, 2009.
Emerging artists, university students and hobbyists interested in learning paper-cutting techniques are encouraged to attend the workshop.

Artworks purchased for the principal purpose of carrying on a business may be eligible for a 50% tax break, but hurry offer ends December 31, 2009!!! If you have an ABN and a turnover under $2 million annually you can take advantage of the Australian Government's tax break for the purchase of new artwork!
According to the ATO the terms are:
The artwork needs to be NEW – eg. currently held in galleries as trading stock, and not purchased prior by another party.
Artwork price needs to be $1000 or upwards.
Portable and physically tangible - eg. painting or sculpture as a tangible depreciating asset for which a capital allowance deduction is available.
Businesses with less than $2 million annual turnover must have bought the artwork between 13th December 2008 and 31 December 2009, and use and install the artwork between 13th December 2008 and 31st December 2010 in order to qualify for the 50% tax break.
The painting or sculpture must be purchased primarily for business use and must not be sold in the first year or used as trading stock.

19 KAREN congratulates Laura Jones (Sydney) who has just won the FEHVA Coastal Arts Incentive Award. Her winning work 'Thursday Morning' is currently on display as part of the Bangalow FEHVA Arts Festival 2009.
19 KAREN congratulates artist Sonya G. Peters (Gold Coast) who have just been selected to be a Finalist in the 2009 Sunshine Coast Art Prize. Sonya also won People's Choice Award in the 2005 Prometheus Art Awardand was shortlisted for the Stan and Maureen Duke Art Prize in 2008. Her work Bedroom Series, was acquired by the National Australia Private Bank Collection. Sonya will be staging her first solo exhibition 'From the Paperbag series...A new space' at 19 KAREN on June 6-July 4. 2009.

Jam Factory provides support for emerging and established designer/makers handcraftspeople, as well as providing exhibitions and the visiting artist programs.
Scott Redford (Gold Coast) draws upon his experiences growing up on the Gold Coast to explore different aspects of social identity. Redford recognises the supreme place of sport in Australian popular culture, but also speaks of how sporting environments - arenas, schoolyards or beaches - are all sites of 'codified warfare'. Scott Redford was born in 1962 on the Gold Coast, Queensland. He currently lives and works in Brisbane. Redford has held more than fifty solo exhibitions.
Nic Plowman was born in 1978 in Brisbane. In 2000 he graduated from the University of Southern Queensland with a Bachelor of Visual Arts where he subsequently was employed as a Studio Assistant in Painting and Drawing. Nic was an awardee of the USQ Parvis Nikdin Prize and his work was acquired for the University's Collection. Nic Plowman has worked as an art educator for many years, teaching aspiring artists from children and teenagers through to adults. Nic has been included in some of Australia's most prestigious art prizes and is a two time finalist of the Brett Whiteley Travelling Art Schloarship. Nic is repres
