Soft Cuts is Melbourne-based Fleur's first solo exhibition outside her home town, and is currently on show until November 21 at 19 KAREN.  Fleur Harris was also interviewed by the Sydney Morning Herald about her doll collection. Read article here.

September 2009

Black Falcon Press is pleased to announce the recent publication of: Balloons and Airships. A limited edition publication featuring a collection of recent works by Australian artist Johnny Romeo. The book will soon be available for purchase at 19 KAREN. Alternatively Balloons and Airships can be ordered direct from the publisher. Johnny's first solo show in Queensland 'Candyland' is currently on show at 19 KAREN until October 17, 2009.

To coincide with Fleur Harris’s solo show Soft Cuts and the 2009 ARC Biennial ‘Outside In’ program Fleur will be staging an Artist talk/ Workshop at 19 KAREN Contemporary Artspace on Sunday October 25, 2009.

To coincide with the 2009 ARC Biennial - a symposium designed to challenge the way we think about visual art, design and craft, the Opening Night for solo shows by FLEUR HARRIS, JUDY ANDERSON and BENJAMIN WERNER will be held on October 24, open to the public. Workshop by Fleur Harris on October 25 is to follow, for info and to book please email us.

19 KAREN congratulates Hannah Smith (Gold Coast) for winning Highly Commended Prize  at the Lloyd Reese Youth Awards held on September 1, 2009. Hannah has been awarded a prize to the value of $3000 which includes $1,500 cash and products from Faber -Castell to the value of $1,500.

19 KAREN congratulates Laura Jones (Sydney) who has just won the FEHVA Coastal Arts Incentive Award. Her winning work 'Thursday Morning' is currently on display as part of the Bangalow FEHVA Arts Festival 2009.
 

19 KAREN congratulates artist Sonya G. Peters (Gold Coast) who have just been selected to be a Finalist in the  2009 Sunshine Coast Art Prize. Sonya also won People's Choice Award in the 2005 Prometheus Art Award and was shortlisted for the Stan and Maureen Duke Art Prize in 2008. Her work Bedroom Series, was acquired by the National Australia Private Bank Collection. Sonya will be staging her first solo exhibition 'From the Paperbag series...A new space' at 19 KAREN on June 6-July 4. 2009. 
 

19 KAREN congratulates artists Hannah Smith (Gold Coast) and Renata Buziak(Brisbane) have been selected as Finalists in the 2009 Prometheus Art Award, to be held May on the Gold Coast. Hannah will be staging her first solo exhibition 'Eat, Sleep, Have Visions' at 19 KAREN on June 6-July 4. 2009.

19 KAREN artist Jae Copp(Gold Coast) and Anthony Lister(Brisbane/NY) are exhibiting as part of 'New Eyes Open' at Ambush Gallery, Sydney. The group show is organized by WeAREtheIMAGEmakers and Semi-Permanent as part of the 2009 Semi-Permanent conference.
Jae will also be in the upcoming group show at 19 KAREN 'Hungry like the Wolf' in May.

Anthony Lister  (Brisbane/NY) has been interviewed  by Gold Coast journalist  Kieren Burke for Australian Creative Magazine. Burke also featured 19 KAREN's launch show tinygold's 'Tales from the Cold Ghost II' in The Epoch Times. Anthony previously exhibited in the group show Pap Spears, and is currently exhibiting 'The Pain of Feeling', his solo show in Italy.

19 KAREN launched on August 22 with a massive bang with tinygold's group show Tales from the Cold Ghost II
The 2-week show was attended by over 1200 artists, curators, musicians, fashionistas, students and general art audiences from all over Australia .19 KAREN was established by Terri Lew and Mariam Arcilla, and aims to provide emerging and mid-career artists with on-going exhibition platforms and career develpopment.
