About Us

19 Karen Contemporary Artspace is dedicated to discovering cutting edge emerging contemporary Australian and international artists with exceptional and diverse talent to shock and excite you.

The gallery showcases solo and group exhibitions every 5 weeks by represented and guest artists. During our solo shows, space permitted, our remaining artists are also on display and rotate with each opening night. Adjacent to this space is as an extensive stockroom with more exciting artworks for private viewing.

The gallery is located in a converted warehouse tucked away in an industrial street of the same name and number – 19 Karen Avenue. It is centrally located with less than 500 meters from Pacific Fair Shopping Centre and is just behind Pacific Square in Mermaid Beach. Please see our map for directions.
The gallery website is easily navigated and is updated on a daily basis, bringing you new artworks, news and information as it happens and most importantly our artists’ profiles and artworks.

Gallery Director

Terri Lew is the director of 19 Karen. Terri is committed to her vision of 19 Karen as a gallery that nurtures emerging contemporary artists giving them the opportunity to grow and prosper in their chosen field to become stronger in their practice and shine in their own unique and indvidual style. Terri chooses artworks that reflects her own taste in art.

Exhibitions

Our monthly exhibition program is curated by the Gallery Director and by invitation to exhibit. We rarely accept artist submissions for exhibitions unless it is of high standard and in accordance with the personal taste of the Gallery Director. Unfortunately we do not hire out the gallery for self curated exhibitions.

Events

Our gallery is available for hire for one-night only private functions, weddings, special birthdays, fashion shows, pop-up shops, photo shoots, product launches, film screenings and art-panels. We encourage proposals that involve unique projects or ideas that combine art with music, fashion, business and design. We are also open to collaborating with arts-related bodies and creative organizations.

Structure

Our annual gallery calendar is divided into 3 Solo Shows per month, Group Shows and Stock Exhibitions by represented and guest artists. From time to time and upon request, we may conduct artist talks, workshops and special projects with local and international artists. Artists who are invited to exhibit at 19 KAREN are not required to pay space hire fees, however there is a set Artist Fee to assist with paying exhibition expenses (including promotional materials, advertising, gallery maintenance, admin costs etc.) The gallery takes 33% commission on sales of work (inclusive of GST on commission only).

Space & Location

Our warehouse-nouveau style arts facility boasts 380 sq. metres of exhibition wall space divided into five Gallery sections of various sizes. Our stockroom is additional 80 sq. meters adjacent to the gallery. We have the capacity to accommodate large group shows, or be sectioned off to conduct separate exhibitions and events.

19 KAREN is conveniently located at 19 Karen Avenue, off Cronulla Avenue on the Gold Coast Highway, Mermaid Beach.

The gallery is a mere stone's throw from Pacific Fair, Jupiter's Casino and the beach, and is 5 minutes drive from Surfers Paradise. Look for landmarks: Lifeline, Bob Jane, Supa-Cheap Auto and Lonestar Streakhouse.
