ARTIST'S STATEMENT

My new series of paintings is about fighters symbolized by box-fighters. Actually I don´t likeboxing at all, but I have to admit that I can´t switch watching a fight on TV.I pay a lot of respect to the brave and fitness of  these sportsmen.

And exactly the brave iswhat fascinates me most at any kind of fighter. People that stand up and fighteven if there´s no chance to win. People that speak out loud for their rights.People that bear down their fears and weakness and affront their combatant.

Comparably absurd is the fact, that people start fights without any reason.Others fight for such a long time that they forgot for what they are actuallyfighting. It´s the tragic figure of a fighter having lost the view for his aimwhat fascinates me. I tried to describe that image by confronting my fighterswith birds or butterflies, sometimes these wires where they can entanglethemselves. And you must know, that boxers are a bit captived by their gloves.Strong but really vulnerable by something fast and small. The theme of“fighters“occupied me long ago and will also be part of my works in the future.

Q&A INTERVIEW WITH THE ARTIST

Q. At what age did you begin creating art?
A. I don't know since when you call it art but I remember me painting and drawing from earliest childhood on.

Q.
Why do you make art?
A. I love to create images. And I love to watch art.

Q. Who do you make it for?
A. First of all for myself. My walls are full with paintings and I always feel a bit sad when I sell a piece.... I think this is stupid.

Q. Do you plan out a piece or do you wing it?
A. I have a rough idea when I start, but then anything can happen.

Q. Do you have heroes? If so, who, if not why not?
A. I don´t have heroes, but people I respect and admire.

Q. How do you decide when a piece of work is finished?
A. Sometimes I think it is finished, but as I often hang my pieces on the wall I can watch them all the time and then do some improvements afterwards.

Q. Do you have your own cure for artists block?
A. Not at all.  Just the experience that it comes and goes.

Q. Do you think having an art education is important in order to be successful?
A. Helpful but not necessary.
