Kathryn Mitchell is a young emerging ceramic designer, based on the Gold Coast, Australia.  She works with stoneware and porcelain clays, in both wheel throwing and slip casting techniques.  Kathryn is fascinated with the temperamental, unpredictable and permanent qualities of ceramics, and aims to combine traditional techniques with contemporary designs.  This current work is inspired by her ever-growing collection of rainbow lorikeet feathers and the vibrant colours of Australia.

 

 

 

The brief of Spanish artists filled my head with colourful lines and shapes. For weeks I couldn’t think whose work I was seeing and finally I remembered: Joan Miro. From 1939 to 1941, Miro created his signature works, The Constellation Series. This series is characterized by the shapes of stars, birds and women, all overlapping in different ways to create a specific colour space.
