Frederic Truteau
Frédéric Truteau was born in 1970 in Marseille, France. He lives and works in Ventabren near Aix en Provence. Frédéric is a self-taught artist who discovered a natural talent to express his strong emotions on canvas and develop his own unique style and technique by using his favourite medium – acrylic paint. He says he is most fond of acrylic as the mixture lends itself more easily to the themes created by his emotions, the paint drips off the brush to land on the canvas naturally.
He says “When the heart paints, lucidity is expressed”.
After an abstract period, which unfolded in the 90s, came an oscillation between cubism and figurative art which gave an uncluttered mosaic effect, almost cartoonish. Frédéric then embarked on a landscape theme, dear to his fondness for travelling, especially to Australia, that his canvasses in panoramic form reflect. This fascination for painting large open spaces has been a goal to reach since he was a young boy. Since then, he has applied his style to Provence and particularly to Marseille, sailing on the desire to paint and to discover himself day by day.

Artist Statement
‘13 Winks to Andy’: this exhibition came from my first nod to Andy Warhol with my painting, ‘Sardines’. It's a mixture of my style of painting in the manner of Andy Warhol and illustrates a famous story about the city of Marseille. This painting has been very popular and I can really say that this was the starting point for the exhibition. Through my style of work and that of Andy Warhol, I want to share and show the subjects by which I am deeply touched. Australia is one of my favorite themes along with my home, the south of France (Provence); you will see the inspiration from these places in this exhibition. I also use consumer products and the repetition of the object such as Andy might do, as well as using close-up perspectives to show the best of the subject. Through the mixture of all these techniques of painting, framing, colors and subjects, I hope to give this exhibition a feeling of Modernism and Pop.
Frederic will be exhibiting at 19 KAREN in February 2012. |
