Those skills are now translated onto canvas, whilst still retaining the qualities of a mural.  Large masses of colour define volume and the paintings demand distance to achieve a good angle from which to observe them, a way of playing with realism and abstraction.  

 Amaya works predominantly with portrait subjects commenting on war. The works often serve as representative statements rather than individual portraits. The scale is also significant often staring directly at the viewer, establishing a direct physical relationship, as is the colour which can be a contradiction used to create tension in the paintings.
