Abigael Whittaker holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Fashion Design at Qld University of Technology, QLD, where she won the People's Choice Award at the Youth Week Fashion Parade in 2006.
Abigael has participated in several group shows including the Brisbane Artist-Run Initiatives Festival, the Annual Drawing Show (Jugglers Artspace), and Tales from the Cold Ghostt II (tinygold).
Her close relationship with fashion has inspired the development of her art practice, as it combines "figurative, illustration-based artworks with elements of collage, painting and the allure of all things tactile and cloth."
Abigael's latest mixed media works acts as a voyage of discovery through memories of life, love and heartbreak. Of the works, the artist says: 'I am a gypsy wandering, searching only for that which I find. Rings on my fingers and bells on my toes, naked skin and coloured fabric, I forget the broken heart, remember only the mending. A horse drawn cart and the open road, red poppies as far as the eye can see, its strength turning into a garden; a forest. I am beating a drum to my own rhythm.'
Abigael lives and works in Annerley, Brisbane, and is represented by 19 KAREn on the Gold Coast.
